Hello all.
Name: Phil Location: hill country, Texas, US Age: older than Hans! Occupation: Professor
I was very pleased to find this group who focus on clean racing. I'm very new to LFS (less than a week!). I will try to stay out of everyone's way. :-). I've been practicing in the XFG at BL so far and can do clean consistent laps of 1:39. I've been using my CH Eclipse yoke from my flight sim. I should probably get a wheel. Would that help make me faster?
Anyway, i'm a simmer from way back. Driving (Papyrus Indycar and NASCAR) and flight sims. But I was away from summing for over a decade. Then about a year ago or so, I bought a desktop again and discovered MP and online simming. I started back with FSX (i'm a RL pilot), then joined groups for air combat sims (IL2 and ROF). These are great fun but not very realistic. I like the challenge of a realistic driving sim, so I looked around for the best and settled on LFS (although I just ordered RaceOn for my son).
I've read the rules and watched the SC video. What a smart way to do that! I have S1 but will upgrade soon. I like the little UF cars and look forward to driving them and the GTR cars. A few questions:
What cars and tracks are used most here, so I can practice?
And I read about using LFSRelax, but there seem to be several versions on that thread. Do we still use that or something called JoinLFS? I run win7 64-bit. Will these programs work on my system? There were some comments on the thread about it not working on 64-bit.
Really look forward to racing with the group online. Can't this Sunday as my nephew is graduating from college, but I will join the next session.

Wow, we have a lot in common. 1. We are almost prehistoric 2. Started with flightsim to and I still do (www.fscb.be) 3. I like clean, fair racing 4. I also have a CH yoke .. but driving with logitech g25.
;c)))
So Welcome !!!!! First thing you need to do is of course buy yourself the S2. Because we don't drive with S1.. That does not mean we don't drive blackwood of course. Glad you like the SC procedure.. not always ideal but mostly it brings back a lot of action and keeps the racers in the race.
And yes the important thing is that everybody is welcome as long as they respect the rules.. and to respect them, you need to know them. But don't be scared to race !! fight for you position. And if you should gt a blue flag, let them pass you in a save way and where it is possible.. faster guys need to respect your race to !!! For an example when blue flagged before a chicane, don't try to let them pass you , take the chicane first and let them pass you when there is room for it. In that case you lose less time and also the faster guy has not problems.
2nd important thing is to have fun and never give up !! We give 2extra points for every racer that completes at least 80% of the race.
And of course nothing comes for free. Practicing is the main key to succes !! On the forum you can always tell us you will be online tonight and other will try to join and help you with settings and advice.
So again welcome and let that rubber burn !!

Thanks for the welcome. I just set up LFSRelax also and ran some laps in sp at SO1. I really like how the pit guy calls traffic. Like NASCAR. Very helpful to race clean.
Do I put in my ip when using it online also? Or the ip of the host I join?
I think I'll get a wheel soon. The Eclipse only has 90 degrees. And no FF.

I guess SLO_SCatter uses it to and he is from the US to by the way ;D. Instead of using LFSRelay I use the only two buttons on the steering wheel of the G25 to look left and right. FB is important , but not that important is my experience. It is really set to the minimum.. because it often makes your arms go tired sooner. Effects are nice, to know when you are hitting the curbs, just don't set the FB to hard.

Hello Griphos,
Humanities Professor?
Anyway, welcome and you are not really that old (nor is Hans), at least compared to me. ;D I hope you can join us, we need some more Americans in these races.

Hi Griphos and welcome to liveforspeed.be ! I used a joystick for a very long time before I could afford a wheel and it takes some time to get used to but after a short moment of surprise and frustration, a FFB wheel with make you faster without a doubt. And yes LFS is indeed the most realistic sim. For the question of the most used cars in our series, we just finished a season and next championship will start after the holiday season. We are still not sure what it will be but we try to use a learning ladder and start with an easier car and gradually climb up in difficulties. In the meantime we host open races every sunday night. Next sunday will be fern bay rally with the yoghurt pot UBF1. After that we will set our server to blackwood/UFR1 because some of us registered for a christmas race on december 23 (not hosted by us) and we need to practice. so december 26 will be blackwood/UFR. We are open to suggestion for next week, your chance looking forward to meet you on the track sometimes.

Welcome griphos, I'm right up there with you guys in age (51). About the ip, I have never needed to enter an ip into LFSRelax. I use it for the spotter, to show how far in front or behind I am to the cars in front/behind me, sector times, fuel remaining, etc. I use almost every part of LFSRelax except for the teamspeak function and the chat macros. I can send you my config file so you can use it as an example if you need it. Hans is right though, while the spotter is nice to have someone telling you that there is a car beside you, you really don't know how close the car is to you unless you tap the look buttons to take a glance... which is something I can't do because of my paralysis. So I use an old Microsoft Sidewinder Standard joystick to drive with. Anyway, glad you joined liveforspeed.be and look forward to racing with you. cya on the track

A bunch of old guys here I guess! I feel right at home. Yep, humanities. Philosophy actually. But don't hold that against me. ;D
I'm just using LFSRelax for the spotter. Turned everything else off. Like the spotter though. But i've mapped the look buttons to the Eclipse so I can take a look myself. I raced FBM at BL online last night and having the others called out really helped me race clean. And I did much better than most of the others because of it. I think racing clean gets you ahead most of the time!
Wish I could make Sunday's race. Gotta go out of town for my nephew's graduation. I think I can make the next one though. I'll upgrade to S2 and practice in the UFR a bit.
Scatter and knuckles, what's your game names? I'd like to add you to Live Alert and join you online sometime.
