Nice!
Looks like a lot of fun. At which level are you doing this? Amateur/semi-pro/professional?
It indeed is fun Gnomie. And i'm doing this in amateur level. Normally i don't even race in events. I just go out to a motorcross track and practise and have fun together with a few mates.
Let me tell you how it all happened...
I started riding motocross at the age of 6 or 7. With a 50 cc Italjet with automatic gears. No events. Just in my backyard on a little track my father made. It was heaps of fun.
When i was 11 or 12 my father bought me my first "real dirtbike". A Suzuki RM 80 with 6 gears. My god that thing kicked ass. It was incredibly fast. I entered a few races with it but never could really keep up with the fast guys.
When i was 15 i got a Honda CR 125 for my birthday. I had lots of fun on that bike. I entered several races and was often the fastest 125 on the track. I only entered what was then called supercross races. Now supercross is indoors but back then supercross over here in Europe was outdoors, all bike classes together and shorter but more race in a day (Normally it was 2 times 20 or 25 minutes, this was 3 times 15 minutes). I just enjoyed that format more.
At the age of 19 i had to go to the army. I bought myself a Kawasaki KX 250 with all the money i had left but i never really liked that bike. I was small for my age and i never could manage the power of that big 250.
I got my driving license to drive bikes on the open road and i turned away from motocross. Bought several road bikes (including the very fast ones like the Suzuki GSXR 1100) and turned to circuit racing as well. I really loved that back then.
But i got bored driving on circuits so slowly i backed away from that and started touring on public roads more and more.
But as time flew by the laws got more and more strict and all the fun went away. Everywhere speed cams, everywhere police units that try to catch speeders.
I got married, bought a house and 2 kids game along (married with children lol) and i started to realize that that speeding on public roads was 1 to dangerous and 2 to expensive if the cops caught me.
So i sold all my bikes. Wanted to become the "perfect" husband and father. But i really did not like my life back then. I started to feel more and more like Al Bundy from the famous sitcom that i mentioned before. I had no hobby's left and all i did was sit behind the computer doing virtual races. They are fun but they do not give me the adrenalin rush that i need.
Last year, January 2007, i got a mail that a mate of mine was selling his bike. The kid was only 21 but he needed the money to go on a trip around the globe. He offered me his bike for a very good price. I had to drive from Belgium to Swizerland (approx 750 km single trip) to go and pick it up. It was again a 125 but i did not really care about that.
So i bought that bike. Went out and bought my new clothes and one day in march 2007 i took it out to the track for the first time. My god... this was hard work lol. After only 7 minutes i was completely empty. I thought i would never be able to ride that thing again. I was 34.. Did not ride a single lap on a dirtbike in over 15 years.
So i had to work on my stamina. I started going to the fitness, do some power training, cycling, running,.... And at the end of 2007 i could do 3 heats of 30 minutes in 1 day.
I lost 6 kg in one year thanks to that bike. I am a year older but i feel 10 years younger then last year. I still have the style and the speed i had when i was 19. I maybe lost a little bit of the punch i had back then, i maybe am a little less explosive and i surely am a lot more carefull then i was back then but i just love riding that bike. I almost feel sorry that i lost 15 years. I should've never given up on dirtbiking.
I was not planning on doing any more races. I just wanted to go out and have fun. But then a mate of mine organized that race and i entered it. it was again a supercross format. Tho only 2 heats of 15 minutes, but all bikes together. There were only 2 125 cc bikes on the start. All the other were 250 cc 2 or 4 strokes, 450 cc 4 strokes, 500 cc 2 strokes and even 3 550 cc 4 strokes. The 125 cc 2 stroke (which i have) and the 250 cc 4 strokes are concidered to be MX2 bikes which is the lighter class and have a seperate standing. So i entered that race... 26 starters.. 10 being MX2 bikes. I finished 6th twice. Overall i was also 6th. I was first 125 cc and 2nd overall MX2 bike (so 1 250 cc 4 stroke beat me to it).
I was very happy with that result. So happy that i decided to do again some races in 2008. Next race i will prob be entering will be in Tongeren during the first weekend of May. It's the BMB class which has several pro riders in their rangs but i don't mind. I will see what happens there. However.. if it rains to hard i won't enter. I'm just having some fun. I don't want to break my neck or my bike lol.
pfff... long story lol. Longer then i thought it would be
So... to top it off some more pics :
