...If others use a program like Teamspeak it´s possible to talk by headset without using any keys or buttons. It can be set to voice activation..... We have already used Teamspeak during LFS but not yet in official or test races. And talking without using an activation button is not possible I think and for the following : When someone is coughing or someone else is talking or the phone starts ringing, the rest hears it to. I know you can adjust the sensitivity of all this but coughing will always be heard. And I don't know about others but when I mess up or lose concentration I talk to myself and sometimes they are not for public ears And If I see how many people turn off comments in LFS, I don't think they want to be disturbed by something else than the engine noise in the headset or speakers... ;D The activation key solves that problem.. During the race it has to be completely silence except of next season when the Safety car procedure comes at hand. When someones yelling "Safety CAR" it could makes things very easy for the admin to talk instead of typing even if we use a lot of pre-defined keys. If you look at it for comments before and after the race it can be a very nice tribute to the game.. and it would give us a chance to know each other much better. During the race I would be STRICTLY for the admin only to use. Because indeed now for the admin, typing and driving is almost impossible. Driving and pushing 1 button is far more easier then it would be now. If we should go and try this it should also be on a private Teamspeak session.. We don't want others to start talking to us during the race.

I suggest that we can make TS rooms for different purposes like:
A. Official+test races (Push voice button and password protected) B: Practice (voice activation allowed and password protected) C: Practice (voice activation not allowed and password protected) D: Public (no restrictions)
Then people can choose the room, which fits them best and which is allowed for the league.
TS is as hanziboy says good for getting to know each other and is very helpful in endurance races and in practice sessions, because you can help each other much better than when writing.

I've been thinking about it lately, maybe the fastest guys could monitor the not so fast guys (like me ) in a training session once in a while. that would be more constructive than a weight penalty to keep the competiton more open, that would bring the general level up rather than restricting it down. in this case teamspeak is very usefull. as it is when we (GURU) did team races were drivers had to team up in the same car in an endurance race. other than that, I agree that races must remain silent. configuring a F# button for the 2 or 3 safety car messages suits me fine. and typing allows everyone to react at once just after a race rather than wait for your turn of speach. plus you never have to go "sorry what did you say I didn't hear that" when you read a message

Good proposal. But then comes the rest of course.. Where can we install those TS communities ? I have just checked prizes on renting TS server for 30 slots and this already costs 10-12 euro /month. So more imput on that subject to please. Cu on track tonight. After the F1 from Brasil...

When they say it is "rather easy", then I should be capable of doing it And after installing, upgrading, put the correct port forwarding in my router.. I was able to put a Teamspeak server online Ok, this is not a 24/7 online Teamspeak server, but it will be online of I'm online.. With this method we can evaluate how much this will be used before and after the races. And during a practice session for the safety car procedure. Of course during races it has to be quiet.. Braking the quiet rule results in the same penalties as a message. (see rule page on website) Screen shots on how to configure and find the server will be placed here later on.

The password to access the server (when online) is placed under a closed section. So it will only be visible after you log-in in the forum.

The Teamspeak installation Guide: First of all download the Teamspeak client from : www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloadsThere you find : TeamSpeak 2 Client 2.0.32.60 and TeamSpeak 2 Client 2.0.33.7download them both. first install the 2.0.32.60 version. If you don't change anything it will install it in the c:\program files\ Teamspeak2_RC2 folder. Don't run it yet. Or close it if you are already running it ... copy the version 2.033.7 over the one already installed in the c:\program files\teamspeak2_rc2 folder. If he is asking to overwrite ...do so ! Then you may run it, you normally will have a shortcut on your desktop. do the folowing : go to Connection ->Connect Chose the "Web Server List" and wait wait wait........ Select the "LiveforSpeed.be" server and press "Copy to local Addressbook" Go back to the "Local Addressbook" on top and fill in your nickname, the password (you can find this in our closed forum sessions), connect You should now be connected. But we still have to configure your mike so you have to press a key before you can speak. Go to Settings -> Sound Input/Output Settings Select "Push to Talk" and select a key you want to assign to that function. I normally tale the "Scroll Lock" button but that did not work for me anymore, so now I have selected on of the multimedia keys on the keyboard I never use. All done..Cu on track and . ..hear you on track

"My server" is a lot , just run the Teamspeak server program on my LFS pc. And This pc is connected to a router and to my ISP modem. The ip that I get from my ISP is a variable Ip.. I know that I can solve this with services like Dyndns but I don't want to be reachable all the time and get all sort of attack on my network. And so it is better to search for it.. For the moment If this would a a great succes , we can look for an extra sponsor to fund a permanent Teamspeak server.
