You're lucky -- these days you don't have to pay much to get a near top-end PC. Sounds to me like a decent dual-core processor should suit you fine. (most likely you don't need a quad core) The Intel E8400 is great value for the money. So if you can afford that I'd say go for it. For graphics, ATI are doing very well these days in the performance/price ratio. The HD4850 is an excellent card that will cope with almost anything you throw at it. Its big brother HD4870 is/has dropped in price already down to $200, so if you can find it at that price it's a no-brainer. RAM is very cheap these days, so why not get 4GB DDR2 RAM. If you're not going to overclock or do anything fancy you can buy a pretty cheap motherboard. P45/X38 based ones are pretty cheap. You'll have to google. If you're thinking ahead you can get a motherboard which supports CrossFire so that you can put in a second graphcis card later on if you want. All in all this should be a good PC for you: Cabinet: Antec Performance P182 Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro GPU: Club 3D HD 4870 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Memory: Kingston Value PC6400 4GB Harddisk: Samsung SpinPoint F1 640GB CD/DVD: Samsung SH-S223F Power supply: Corsair VX 550W In total it should cost no more than ~ 800-850 Euro. (if the prices are the same as in Norway) Good luck!

Too bad. Well, then it will feel even better the day you finally buy a new pc, I guess. Myself I've waited 3,5 years now. I badly want a new PC too

I was also thinking of buying a pc 3 motnhs ago, but the suddenly my laptop crashed. i really need this, because i'm a dj and you my laptop when i go playing. so i bought myself a ACER 5730G. now I hook up my screen (still had a 17") somewhere, put the laptop next to me and race on the big screen. everything runs smoothly, and the laptop was about 800€. I run Photoshop CS3 and 3DSmax 2009 without any problem. We should all be lucky that LFS is a very very light 3D engine compared to these days standards. but then again. new pcs are never cheap. One advice. 9/10 it is cheaper to put one together yourself. Most sites where you can order parts from will assemble everything for les then 30€ and search in holland, 9/10 cheaper ( 4launch.nl for example)

Congrats! That should be avery nice upgrade, and superbly suited for simulations as well. (most simulations require lots of horsepower in terms of a fast CPU) I'm assuming the processor is an E8400? Wave goodbye to any framerate issues!
