Hi , yesterday night and again this evening the server is down. Also the website www.500servers.com is down. I hope they will be online soon. I will complain about this !! And I hope they are not bankrupted because I have renewed the the server for on year (125 euro's). But even then this will not disturb the race This Sunday. I can still launch a private server so no problems there. Of course I will complain about this when they are back online !

Hi, our race server is off line due to server management with the server provider 500 servers.. This is the e-mail we received explaining the work they are planning to do in the following days. Hi Everybody,
Over the last 4 years 500servers have switched and upgraded servers a lot of times, Often the server changes were rushed and this has lead to unbalanced servers,
In order for us to be able to provide the best quality servers we can for everybody we will be performing a 4 day plan of server load balancing and file cleanups to help our servers run more faster, stay reliable and be more efficient in hosting your services.
So what is happening? Basically we will be reinstalling everything from a fresh set of directory instructions. Don't worry though all of your files and configs will be safe and full backups will be taken before any of this happens.
What does this mean for you? A lot of services will be changing physical machines, this means that your server IP may be changed and any website's that rely on file paths will need to be updated. We will of course make sure that if your IP / file paths are changed that you are informed of them immediately.
How will it be done? We will be making preparation work for this to happen on the 2nd January 2010 and will begin doing the actual load balancing / cleanups on the 3rd / 4th / 5th January. Each server will one at a time be dealt with which means that your servers (1 at a time) will be taken offline for approximately 10 minutes each. After your server has been dealt with it will not be disturbed again.
When is this happening exactly?
As per our maintenance page on the 500servers website:
* Major Server Load balancing preparations: 02/01/2010 - 03/01/2010 (24 hour Window) o Servers Affected: ALL SERVERS o Expected Slowdown: Additional Network Latency - 30-40ms / Additional Server Load (Spiking CPU Usage) o Expected Downtime: NONE
* Major Server Load Balancing: 03/01/2010 @23:00 for 5 Hours o Servers Affected:ALL SERVERS o Expected Slowdown: Additional Network Latency - 30-40ms / Additional server Load (Spiking CPU / High memory usage) o Expected Downtime: up to 10 Minutes per server (individual LFS Servers)
* Major Server Load Balancing: 04/01/2010 @23:00 for 5 Hours o Servers Affected:ALL SERVERS o Expected Slowdown: Additional Network Latency - 30-40ms / Additional server Load (Spiking CPU / High memory usage) o Expected Downtime: up to 10 Minutes per server (individual LFS Servers)
* Major Server Load Balancing: 05/01/2010 @23:00 for 5 Hours o Servers Affected:ALL SERVERS o Expected Slowdown: Additional Network Latency - 30-40ms / Additional server Load (Spiking CPU / High memory usage) o Expected Downtime: up to 10 Minutes per server (individual LFS Servers)
We hope you understand that this is a vital part of making sure we can continue to offer the best service that we possibly can for you.

And so all went well, after I hosted the race myself and connected the ISP directly to my computer to prevent further Internet drops. Meanwhile the server is back online I see and will set it to Blackwood parking and load the ROC circuit. It will be driven with the standard set and with the MRT closest thing we have to a cart.
