Okay, I'm a total noob. What is rendering? (I mean besides some process in which these cars wind up looking really good).

Okay, I'm a total noob. What is rendering? (I mean besides some process in which these cars wind up looking really good). For what I know, LFS uses a "simplier" 3D modeling engine, to allow us to navigate in real time in a 3D environment. While we play, our computer calculate the lights, angle of objects and "renders" a view from your point of view, in game it does that every 90th of a second (or the value of your FPS) which is pretty amazing. The 3D cars used in LFS can be imported on more complexe 3D software that will generate a single image with a higher definition and a lot more details in lights and reflections. The calculation needed to render the different shadows and details takes too long to be used in game because it is just too much for a home computer to deal in real time. When I started working with computers, it would take a whole night, sometimes more, just to render a 480X640 simple image
